Petroleum Review June 2013
This month’s Petroleum Review looks at some of the methods employed by the drilling sector as the North American shale boom calls for an increased focus on reducing the upstream industry’s environmental footprint. We also outline how Statoil is tackling the well integrity management issue with a simplified solution to reducing risk and extending operations safely.
A recent report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) has raised the question of the appropriate way to price natural gas in Asia – we look at the opportunities for developing a gas trading hub in the region that would allow previously oil-indexed gas prices to reflect local demand and supply. This issue also discusses some of the recent changes in the oil trading market and unregulated changes to benchmark contracts, and examines what an ideal oil price benchmark might be.
In our annual review of the Latin American region, we focus on the latest developments in Argentina, where the government is expanding its grip on the energy sector, and look at the brightening E&P picture in Brazil, where after a gap of five years, three auctions of concessions are to be held this year (see also p3).
