US offshore wind farm to use Mono Bucket foundations
The US state of Ohio’s planned Lake Erie offshore wind farm will use ‘Mono Bucket’ foundations to support the pilot project’s turbines. The foundations, developed by the Danish Universal Foundation, mean that there is no need to use a modified monopile concept originally earmarked for the project.
The Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation (LEEDCo) said that the Mono Bucket foundations will achieve cost savings when taking into account the soil and weather conditions at the site as well as local fabrication considerations. The foundations are an all-in-one steel structure that use a suction system to attach to the seabed.
