Biomass boilers for Somerset golf club

Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club has been provided with a twin biomass boiler system from Windhager to reduce its energy costs. The Somerset golf club made the decision to convert its previous oil heating system to biomass, which resulted in the installation of a 120 kW biomass boiler system with a 1,500 litre accumulator tank. The system was fitted by Orin Green Energy.

Two 60 kW Windhager BioWIN Excel biomass boilers were installed in a purpose-built cedar-clad plant room outside the main property. This also houses an integral wood pellet store and the accumulator tank to run alongside the existing plumbing and central heating system at the golf club.

The installation qualified for the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme, which will generate a repayment of 8.6p per kWh generated – £12,200 per year for the current energy consumption of the golf club.
