UK Chancellor scraps proposed fuel duty rise

Announcing his latest Budget Statement, the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne scrapped a proposed rise in fuel duty, which would have added 0.54 pence to the pump price in September, keeping tax at the existing level of 57.95 pence in the pound. This means fuel duty has remained unchanged since early 2011, which the Treasury claims will save the typical motorist £675 by April next year.

Howard Cox, Founder of the FairFuelUK Campaign, welcomed the continued freeze on fuel duty, but called for the government ‘to go further and drive the UK economy continually upwards by cutting duty.’
