SHEPD launches competitive process for a new energy solution on Shetland

Ofgem has been working alongside Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (SHEPD) to launch a major competitive process for the electricity supply on Shetland. SHEPD has now published the Official Journal Of the European Union (OJEU) Contract Notice inviting Expressions of Interest, alongside a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire.

Shetland is currently an isolated network and the costs of power generation are much higher than on the mainland. This competitive process provides an opportunity for all interested parties to bid in with solutions including: new generation technologies, measures to manage or reduce demand, and other smart grid solutions.

Bidders should complete the questionnaire before 12 noon on Friday 8 May 2015 to be considered for the next part of the process.
