The Ivanpah Solar Energy Generating System, the world’s largest concentrating solar power plant, has been opened in California. Power from the 392 MW plant will be sold under long-term power purchase agreements to Pacific Gas & Electric and Southern California Edison Company.

The project was a joint effort by NRG, Google and BrightSource Energy, and Bechtel served as the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor. It received a $1.6bn loan from the US Department of Energy.

This overhead shot is of the second of three units that make up the power plant.
