Flexible thing film CIGS solar cells

Flexible thing film CIGS solar cells from the Swedish company Midsummer have been installed on municipal buses in the Polish city of Lublin. The thin film solar cells (pictured) are both light and flexible meaning they can be installed onto moving vehicles easily.

The solar panels are used to charge the buses’ batteries. The panels are non-toxic (no cadmium) and can be made frameless so are flexible and can be bent. The Lublin solar bus project will initially run for two years, after which it will be evaluated. The first solar bus is already in operation.
