Fast EV charger network expansion for Denmark

A country-wide network of DC fast electric vehicle (EV) chargers in Denmark is to be expanded to 100 locations, to include a range of prime petrol stations and shopping centres.

The chargers are to be supplied as part of Denmark’s CLEVER initiative, under which 50 DC chargers were installed in early 2013. The expansion will follow with another 50 fast charge points from ABB, which also installed the first 50.

The DC fast chargers are to be compatible with the CCS ‘Combo’ connection type which is becoming the favoured EV connector type in Europe. The CLEVER network comprises both AC and DC chargers and supports all EVs available on the Danish market.

The first of the ABB Terra 53 chargers has been installed at a Shell petrol station in Denmark, marking the first commercial installation of a CCS charger in the country. ABB will provide the chargers as well as software solutions for remote servicing. Each web-connected charger has a range of connectivity features, including remote assistance, management and servicing.
