Landfill gas-to-power in Mexico and Chile. Energy World, June 2012, p 6

In Mexico, a gas capture facility has been been opened at the San Nicolas landfill site, with the biogas used to generate 2-5 MW of electricity which is then transported 20 km to a Nissan factory for producing 37 000 vehicles per year. A total of 3.9 million tonnes of waste is currently deposited at the site, which should supply gas for at least 15 years, while reducing carbon emissions by about 90 000 tonnes per year. Comparable developments are taking place in Chile.
