R Alleyne, Electric cars would 'drain National Grid', Daily Telegraph, 26 May 2010, p 19

In UK, the Royal Academy of Engineering reports that the conversion of all the country's 30 million cars to electric propulsion would demand an extra 10 gigawatts of power, equivalent to 16% of the present demand. This would mean building the equivalent of six large nuclear power stations, or 2000 wind turbines.
