The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney, Scotland, is to host commercial-scale deployment of a tidal turbine capable of generating 1 MW of power in a 2.6 m/s tidal current. Meanwhile the State of Gujarat in India has also announced plans to become a world-leader in tidal energy by harnessing over 100 MW of tidal energy, and the coast of Oregon in the US will become host to a 1.5 MW wave energy deployment.
