Fletcher,R. BP links with ABF for £200m biofuel site. Daily Telegraph. 27/06/2007
BP and Associated British Foods will build a £200m biofuel plant in Hull to produce 420m litres of bioethanol a year. The plant, to start producing biofuel by the end of 2009, will be built on BP's chemicals site at Saltend. By 2010, the Government wants biofuel to account for 5pc of motor fuel. However, the fuel has proved controversial with questions about the environmental cost of producing biofuel and fears that demand for sugar, palm oil and wheat for biofuel production has pushed up food prices.
