Iggulden, A. Zero carbon home is little more than hot air. Daily Telegraph. 8/12/2006

Britain's first and only community experiment in zero-carbon living raises, in spote of some successes, serious questions about Mr Brown's ambition that all new homes should be carbon-free. BedZed, a development of 99 flats in London, was supposed to be zero-carbon and entirely sustainable. After 4 years, the eco-village is neither. The wood-burning technology that should produce all the heat and power has been abandoned. and a water sewage system that used reed beds to mimic natural waste filter systems is out of action because of costs. Each BedZed insulated and hermetically sealed flat also emits about half a ton of CO2 each year. Modern homes built to standard building regulations produce about one ton.
