Fossil fuels: A strategy for sustainable power generation from fossil fuels in Europe. Andrew Minchener and John McMullan. Energy World. May 2005 P. 18-21

Fossil fuelled power generation is going to play a major role in Europe for many years to come. So, alongside efforts to increase end-use energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy must be an effort to improve the environmental performance of particularly coal, but also gas fired, power generation. Here, Dr Andrew Minchener of the IEA Clean Coal Centre and Professor John McMullan from the University of Ulster, describe the work being carried out by three projects already operating across Europe. The groups are looking at clean coal technologies, improvements to gas turbines and the sequestration and storage of carbon dioxide.
