Oil production in New Zealand is expected to reach record levels in 2009, with a new wave of follow-up drilling near the Tui and Maari fields offering further growth opportunities and the possibility that the country may become a net oil exporter. Meanwhile, natural gas production has now recovered from the decline in the big Maui gas field and gas reserves are also rising, with new estimates of coal bed methane resources providing opportunities for the future.
