Preparations are underway for the proposed corporatisation of state-run Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) as part of efforts to reform the electricity industry and increase power supplies to keep pace with Bangladesh’s expanding economy. The government-backed programme matches a similar initiative due to begin shortly to reform the nation’s natural gas supply industry and to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of gas transmission and distribution companies. David Hayes reports.
