Methanols erratic history does not provide a proper guide to assiss its medium and longer term future. Despite its previous and current irregular existence, there remains sufficient potential to interest certain industry sectors to consider expanded production. Much of the drive originates from resource producers who control large amounts of remote or stranded feedstock natural gas and are facing penalties for flaring or are seeking to monetise their resources.
