Environment risk assessment---offshore petroleum development. Anon. JPT, April 1999, 15(4), 68, 70, 72. (Synopsis SPE paper 46842).

A case study of an offshore petroleum-development project is presented that uses environment-risk-assessment techniques. BHP Petroleum uses a risk-based hazard-identification approach at the start of projects to ensure that actual and potential environmental impacts and concerns are identified at the conceptual stage. With a hazard-identification approach, impacts are identified in a systematic manner through a brainstorming session involving a multidisciplinary team. At this session sources of impacts are identified and methods for their prevention control, and mitigation are discussed.
