Measurement of tribological characteristics in the research of journal bearing materials. S. Strzelecki and R. Wojcicki. Lubric. Engng., June 1999, 55(6), 31--35.

Experimental studies of the tribological characteristics of two different bearing materials mating with a journal made from hardened steel are described. The test rig is described and illustrated. In the case of journal bearings the material characteristics of the tribosystem are of great importance. Results show that the elements of a tribosystem vary in relation to specific load, sliding surface, roughness and bearing temperature. Friction torque, bearing temperature and lubrication conditions vary according to the developing wear. Properties of the bearing material determine operating conditions in the range of dry or mixed friction. 7 refs.
