Improve reboiler operation and reliability. L.A. Huchler. Hydrocarbon Processing, June 1999, 78(6), 69--80.

Reboiler applications in typical refinery operations are tabulated. The reboilers are essentially shell and tube steam heat exchangers. The most common designs which are kettle, forced circulation, and thermosiphon reboilers are described and illustrated. The impact of changing operational variables is discussed. Reboiler optimization using mechanical operations, venting, steam traps, construction materials and contaminant removal is described. Chemical treating options include the use of filming amines, neutralizing amines, and passivating agents. Various methods of corrosion monitoring and chemical treatment monitoring are reviewed. 12 refs.
