Availability and cost functions for periodically inspected preventively maintained units. J.K. Vaurio. Reliability Engng. Systems Safety, February 1999, 63(2), 133--140.

Unavailability and cost models are reported that have been developed for periodically inspected and maintained units. The model accounts for finite repair and maintenance durations as well as costs due to testing, repair, maintenance and lost production or accidents. The objective of the maintenance optimization is to minimize the total cost rate by proper selection of two intervals, one for inspection and one for replacements. 8 refs.
