TransCanada implements strict acoustic standards for stations. Anon. Pipeline Gas Ind., September 1998, 81(9), 59--66.

Stringent standards are imposed by TransCanada PipeLines Ltd. to reduce noise pollution from compressor stations in their pipeline transportation system. Typical noise sources are reviewed. They include combustion starting in jet engines, cooling air flowing over high-speed rotating blades, and noise from piping, valves, air intake combustion and exhaust, lube oil cooler fans, and ventilation fans. Acoustical lagging is extensively used to minimize noise pollution from gas generators, power turbines, centrifugal compressors and other sources of noise emissions. Four types of surveys carried out by TransCanada are reviewed and the costs of reducing noise pollution are discussed. Future acoustic plans are reviewed.
