Utility uses database to record inspections and maintenance. L.E. Selking. Pipeline Gas Ind., May 1998, 81(5), 25--28.

The Gas Meter Management System (GMMS) is described as an innovative database management system that automatically monitors and processes data field equipment records. Use by a major service company in Indiana is described and features are illustrated. The computer based GMMS processes data on gas meters and pipeline equipment and the core system is described. Inspection and maintenance procedures are reviewed, and the meter stations and transmission stations are discussed. Similar records are described for pipeline sections and the ability of GMMS to generate reports is reviewed. Future upgrades to the system include the addition of new equipment such as orifice meters, transducers, heater controls, RTUs, system alarms, and communication data.
