Technology and lubrication of the 1998 domestic automobiles. R.L. Fennema. NLGI Spokesm., January 1998, 61(10), 6--16.

Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors automobile technology for 1998 is reviewed and the lubricant and service interval recommendations are summarized. New car models introduced by each manufacturer are described and illustrated. Engine oil changes and filter change intervals are tabulated for each manufacturer and chassis lubrication is also reviewed. Gear lubricants for manual transfer, standard differential, and limited-slip differential applications are described for both front-wheel and rear-wheel drive vehicles. Synthetic oils are widely used in these gear lubricant formulations. The synthetic fluids include Dexron-III, Mercon, and automatic transmission oils.
