How the best petrochemical companies will achieve reliability. H.P. Bloch. Hydrocarbon Processing, July 1996, 75(7), 83--86.

A review of current trends in petrochemical operations suggests processing techniques that may improve the future profitability of chemical manufacturing plants. Work processes, organizational realities, lineups or interfaces are discussed. Technical advances in hardware and software systems are also discussed. Redefining operator functions, improving project design engineering, and improving training for personnel are suggested. Each maintenance event is regarded as an opportunity for upgrading petrochemical processes by extending unit run length, improving plant safety, and increasing component life. Recommendations for improving profitability are based upon extensions of current practices and experience gained in refineries and petrochemical plants.
