Advantages of brazed aluminium heat exchangers. K.M. Lunsford. Hydrocarbon Processing, July 1996, 75(7), 55--63.

The improved heat transfer capabilities and cost-effectiveness of brazed aluminium heat exchangers is illustrated by comparison with conventional shell-and-tube exchangers. However, they require complex design equations and stacking arrangements. Design and operational features are described and illustrated. Process simulators are used to assist the design of brazed aluminium heat exchangers for both single- and multi-phase flow. Four plant examples compare the operational features of different heat exchangers. They include a vapour/liquid ethane exchanger, an inlet feed/side reboiler, a gas/gas/gas exchanger, and an LPG recovery unit with propane refrigeration. Operating data are summarized in tabular form. 13 refs.
