Application of kinetic inhibitors to gas hydrate problems. P.K. Notz et al. SPE Production Facilities, November 1996, 11(4), 256--260.

Details are given of both laboratory test data and a number of field case studies where an accurate comparison with methanol of alternative chemicals could be made. The replacement alternative chemical used was polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), a kinetic hydrate inhibitor. From the information produced, a cost-effective analysis was made comparing the conventional use of methanol and the alternative use of PVP, enabling savings in the range of 50% of the chemical costs and reduced downtime can be realized. 12 refs.
