RTUs simplify gas distribution network SCADA. D. Wallace. Pipeline Gas J., February 1995, 222(2), 24--26.

Improvements to British Gas distribution monitoring and control telemetry strategy are described. A major factor in achieving operational success is the use of improved state-of-the-art intelligent remote terminal units (RTU). The design of a typical outstation with multiple transmitters connected on a single loop, and the design of a new SCADA communications network are described and illustrated. The new RTUs are designed to interface with new technology instruments and with existing control systems. Improved operational efficiency is described and improved flexibility in the implementation of improved safety and shutdown procedures is claimed.
