Diet, health and the offshore worker---a pilot study. K.J. Mearns and C.E. Fenn. Offshore Technol. Rept., OTH-93-399, publ'd Health Safety Exec., HMSO, numerous tables, 42 pages, Price #10 (ISBN 0-7176-0682-1).

The results are reported of investigations into health promotion programmes operating on offshore installations on the Norwegian and UK continental shelf. The main objectives of which were to review the literature on workplace health promotion, and to collect data on such programmes currently in operation on offshore oil and gas installations. Questionnaires were sent to medical directors, occupational health departments, and offshore medics and the results are tabulated and discussed. Training of rig medics and platform nurses is considered and it is concluded that overall there is a growing interest in preventive medicine. 35 refs.
