Rheological properties of grease systems---viscosity, viscoelasticity and the effect of temperature. M. Kieke and H. Nae. NLGI Spokesm., December 1994, 58(9), 12--21.

Rheological studies are reported using a Bohlin Vor Rheometer system operating in a steady rotation or an oscillatory mode. Grease systems containing two different organoclay gellants are compared with a NLGI non-EP reference grease. Performance features for viscosity and shear rate are reported using Bright Stock, HVI Neutral, and PAO fluid base stocks. Effects of viscosity and temperature, yield values, and grease flow are described. Dynamic viscoelastic studies are described and other performance features discussed are storage modulus, recovery after shearing and correlation with penetration tests. Typical experimental results are described and illustrated. 9 refs.
