SPU 380 project. K. Lenning. Floating production systems. Proc. Conf. Org. IIR Ltd., 22--24 March 1995, Aberdeen, Scotland. 14 pages.

Details are given of the largest investment undertaken by Smedvig in the production contracting market---the SPU 380 project. Initiated with a market analysis early in 1993 the main characteristics of a new monohull production vessel were established. The SPU 380 accommodates oil and gas processing, oil storage and oil offloading facilities. A turret---basically a vertical cylinder---is located in the hull forward of the midship section. It is fixed relative to the seabed by catenary mooring lines, with the ship allowed to rotate around it. For safety, living quarters and power generation are up-wind of the turret, whilst processing and offloading are located downwind. A description is given of the concept design as well as the high degree of process flexibility which is incorporated topsides.
