The significance is examined of this ratio for types of offshore-structural applications. Consideration being given to quantifying the range of properties available from the various commercial high-strength steels, and to seeking a solution to current problems by using particular microstructural types of steel. A comparison of current design codes with those of other countries, in particular Japan, is also reported. 22 refs.
