Design for constructability. W.J. Boyce. Hydrocarbon Processing, December 1994, 73(12), 81--85.

Improvements in engineering construction are achieved by applying ten procedural rules. Keeping structures simple is recommended for foundation design and for pipe-rack, compressors and silo structures. Many of the recommendations are described and illustrated. Keeping specifications and standards simple is discussed with reference to pipe-racks, platforms, stairs, and sewers. Block-valve sizing is discussed for controls, pumps, traps, and relief valves. Modifications are proposed to reduce operational costs, and conventional and modified block-valve sizing designs are compared. The ten recommendations described stimulate creativity, improve project management and reduce cost.
