OSO technology research---concentric bit development. E. Inker. J. Offshore Technol., February 1995, 3(1), 35, 36.

A novel drilling concept is described which was the subject of a project undertaken by Weir Pumps. The design concept and experience in turbine mechanics was supplied by Weir, and Diamant Boart Stratabit provided expertise in bit design and construction. The system was aimed at deeper hole sections, where hard formations may result in a drop in performance to as low as three to four metres per hour. Details are given of the prototype tool developed---a 91/2 in. CB turbodrill and the initial field trial.
