A new test is proposed to evaluate the thermal stability of a lubricant, microcoking, a specific tool for the evaluation and development of formulae and additives, as well as for improving a coking test for oils on an inclined plate making up part of the specifications of the PSA Peugeot Citroen group. A method is also proposed for rating the deposits obtained during microcoking or coking tests by a @merit' rating according to the CEC method used to evaluate the state of cleanliness of a piston. 7 refs.
