NIPSCo automates inspection, maintenance records system. Anon. Pipeline Gas Ind., March 1996, 79(3), 77--78.

A new gas measurement and transmission system operated by Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCo) is described. This captures and validates data from field inspections, maintenance of consumer gas meter stations, gas transmission regulator stations, and pipeline sections with vehicle-mounted loggers. The system is highly automated and the main components are described. Advantages of the system are standardized inspection and maintenance practices, identification of locations requiring multiple inspections, significant reductions in paperwork, complete profile information in he field, and an ability to identify high maintenance cost areas.
