Rotating control head applications increasing. A.T. Bourgoyne. OGJ, 9 October 1995, 93(41), 72, 77.

The use is described of rotating control heads that can help increase penetration rates, reduce nondrilling time, and decrease mud volume requirements associated with underbalanced drilling. The high-pressure rotating head is examined together with its applications---gas or air drilling, flow drilling, geothermal drilling, and overbalanced drilling. Workover operations, and operating guidelines are considered as well as rig crew training. 6 refs.
