Research activities planned for the next few years are biotechnological lignite upgrading by Rheinbraun AG are described. The basis of which is a technical concept of electricity generation from biotechnologically solubilized lignite. The considerations being that such lignite can be used for electricity generation on specific, but not unrealistic assumptions, at a currently competitive price with today's most favourable processes. 14 refs.
