New technology and products offered to help solve problems. L. Bullion. Pipeline Gas Ind., June 1995, 78(6), 53--57.

Recent advances in technology are recommended to operators of liquids and gas pipelines for solving problems and reducing costs. An Italian rotary expander mill that produces 16 in. to 24.5 in. seamless line pipe, and a `smart' flowmeter that simultaneously measures three variables are described. A no-blow high-pressure distribution standpipe removal/repair system provides cost savings of $100 000 per year in addition to minimizing risk and customer inconvenience. Other developments described are a new electronic chart recorder for automatic data gathering, an automatic power cylinder balancing system for large-bore gas engines, a compact basic flow computer, a fibreglass-composite pipeline repair sleeve, and a ROV-delivered pipe recovery system.
