Details of the rich hydrocarbon reserves of Venezuela are given and the present status of the petrochemical industry is described. Pequiven's expansion programme carried out between 1987 and 1994 is outlined. It is reported that future developments are likely to be plants for processing methane and ethane and their derivatives such as methanol and olefins.
