Engineering standards and EQC---why bother? V.A. Carucci. Hydrocarbon Processing, December 1997, 76(12), 44--50.

Engineering quality control (EQC) of capital projects is described as increasingly important because of recent changes in the cost-competitive environment of the hydrocarbon processing industry. Application of EQC is discussed in relation to pressure vessels, piping systems, heat exchangers, storage tanks, machinery, process heaters and boilers, instrumentation, electrical systems, and safety. A sample checklist for fixed equipment mechanical engineering is described and illustrated. Guidelines are given for carrying out effective EQC on major capital projects. The overall objective is to minimize technical difficulties and delays and to achieve more reliable long-term plant operation. 5 refs.
