Sizing pumps for slurries. S.Z. Akhtar. Hydrocarbon Processing, November 1996, 75(11), 161--170.

The effect of slurry characteristics on the performance of centrifugal pumps is discussed. Slurry characteristics depend upon particle size, percent solids, concentration, liquid specific gravity, solids specific gravity, and slurry maximum viscosity. Abrasiveness, hardness, and corrosivity of the solid particles should also be considered before selecting a slurry pump. Head ratio and efficiency ratio are defined and numerical values are tabulated for particle sizes from 0.1 to 2.0 mm, slurry concentrations of 10 to 30% v, and impeller diameters in the range 4 to 12 in. Pump construction materials for light, medium and heavy slurries are discussed and the two main categories are rubber lined and hard metal. 5 refs.
