Approaches to sheltered-water oil spills. M.A. Jacobs and D.M. Waldron. Sea Technol., October 1996, 37(10), 33, 35--38.

Details are given of low-cost, near-shore and onshore spill response using new technology. Consideration is also given to older equipment and its practical applications to reduce environmental damage and spill costs. Skimmers, aluminium storage barges, 100-barrel capacity, aluminium skimming barges-100 barrel capacity, and small skimming vessels are discussed. It is concluded that oil in near-shore environments requires that either the oil must be moved to a recovery device or a recovery device must encounter the oil in an advancing mode.
