Long-term gas demand shows strong western Europe growth. V. Thomas. Pipeline Gas Ind., May 1997, 80(5), 47--50.

Long-term forecasts for gas demand in western Europe predict an increase from the present level of 350 billion m3/yr to possibly 480 billion m3/yr by the year 2010. Regional gas production will be unable to keep pace with this demand even with expected increases from the Norwegian and UK sectors of the North Sea. The shortfall could be 190 billion m3/yr. Some of this shortfall will be reduced by pipeline imports of natural gas from Russia, from new supply sourced in central Asia, and by LNG imports from Algeria. Long-term gas requirements and new gas transmission lines are reviewed for different countries in Europe.
