The Wellbuoy system described, a subsea wellhead control buoy, has the advantage of being comparatively inexpensive while offering reliability, ease of maintenance and safe operation. The structure is discussed and the communication system is described by which the information governing the operation and control of the subsea wellhead can be transferred between the buoy and the host facility, involving three functions.
