New concept for multibranch technology. Anon. JPT, July 1997, 49(7), 709, 710. (Synopsis SPE paper 39123).

The completion and production requirements for many of the reservoirs now being evaluated for multibranch-well development require significantly more complex well construction and a much higher level of drilling technology than openhole sidetracks. A multibranch-drilling and -completion system described uses an articulated sealed outlet to achieve a direct mechanical connection to the completion assembly installed in the lateral wellbore. Details of the design, installation procedure, drilling and completing the laterals, and the multibranch system status are presented.
