Attention is drawn to the finding of deposits of radioactive material on board North Sea oil production platforms and the subsequent costs involved in controlling this hazard to health. Radioactive scale production, sites of build-up, handling procedures, monitoring, and onshore cleaning are discussed. Future developments are outlined. 3 refs.
