The UK government has given the go-ahead for two new power stations in Yorkshire, UK, which will generate enough energy to power almost 2mn homes. The 108-MW Ferrybridge power plant in Wakefield will be multi-fuelled (biomass and energy from waste) and built by SSE Generation at a cost of some £250mn. The Thorpe Marsh facility, a 1,500-MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant in North Doncaster, represents an investment of £984mn by Acorn Power Developments.
