The Little Chef restaurant chain is rolling out electric vehicle (ev) charging points across its UK estate in a project that will deliver the largest deployment of charging points by any restaurant chain worldwide. The project is being carried out in partnership with Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) and charging technology provider Chargemaster.
Initially, the roll out will see the installation of 126 charging points in Little Chef restaurant car parks by February 2012, and the vision is for every Little Chef to have an ev charging point by the end of 2012. Eventually, 90% of the UK will be no further than 30 miles from a Little Chef charging point.
The new facility will allow fast charging of up to 7 kW, allowing electric motorists to top their electric car up whilst enjoying a meal. The service will be provided free of charge for the first year, and the Chargemaster units will be supplied with electricity by SSE.
The UK’s first open access hydrogen vehicle refuelling station has been opened at Honda’s manufacturing facility in Swindon. Built and operated by industrial gases company BOC, the venture is the result of a partnership between Honda, BOC and economic development company Forward Swindon. The new station is open to anyone developing or using hydrogen-powered vehicles and can fill vehicles at both 350 bar and 700 bar.
