E.ON Russia has commissioned two new units at the Surgutskaya GRES-2 power station in western Siberia. The new efficient combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) units have a total capacity of 800 MW. The new power units are reported to use the most advanced technology in Russia today and include the latest steam gas designs. ‘Using this technology makes it possible to construct a power station which is compact,’ explains E.ON. The efficiency of each 400-MW CCGT unit at Surgutskaya GRES-2 is 55.9%, which is claimed to be more than one third higher than the average efficiency of power units used in the Russian power industry.
